Kitchen Flooring

Kitchen flooring replacement across San Diego County

A kitchen floor has to take water, dropped pots, chair traffic, and the dishwasher leak you do not know about yet. We install luxury vinyl plank, porcelain, and engineered hardwood with proper underlayment, transitions to adjacent rooms, and waterproofing at the sink, fridge, and dishwasher so the floor survives a 10-year-old house and a 30-year-old one.

What do homeowners ask about Kitchen Flooring?

How much does kitchen flooring cost in San Diego?

Installed kitchen flooring in San Diego runs $2,800-$9,500 for a typical 80-150 square foot kitchen. LVP lands at the lower end, porcelain in the middle, and engineered hardwood at the higher end. Subfloor repair, tile demo, and custom transitions add to the cost.

LVP vs. porcelain: which is better for a kitchen?

LVP is warmer, quieter underfoot, and faster to install. Porcelain is harder, more scratch-resistant, and handles standing water without damage. For most San Diego remodels, LVP is the right pick unless you want a continuous tile floor that runs from the kitchen into the living room.

Can you install wood flooring in a kitchen?

Yes, but it should be engineered hardwood, not solid. Engineered wood is dimensionally stable, handles San Diego humidity swings better than solid, and can be refinished at least once. We avoid solid wood in kitchens because standing water and the occasional dishwasher leak will cup the boards.

Do I need to remove the cabinets to replace the floor?

Not usually. We install the new floor up to the toe-kick of the existing cabinets. The only time we recommend cabinet removal is when the new floor is thicker than the old one and the dishwasher height or the range fit is at risk. We confirm the height call at the consult.

What about waterproofing under the dishwasher?

We install a dishwasher pan under the unit on every kitchen floor job, regardless of the floor material. The pan catches a leak before it reaches the subfloor. For tile we also add a uncoupling membrane membrane at the wet zone (sink, fridge, dishwasher) for full waterproofing.
